What are your thoughts om CBD oil? Have you used it? Does it work for you?
My boss keeps giving me CBD honey because he and his health nut wife try a lot of different brands (through her job), and it is a miracle. My fiancee uses it to help her anxiety, and I use it for the peace-of-mind side effect. It's fantastic stuff.
Sorry for the late reply, but does your fiancee use Sativa or Indica CBD?
My mother has bad insomnia. She started taking CBD honey before bed has had great results.
I've found CBD honey a few different places – I'd have to agree it's extraordinarily relaxing, although it doesn't personally help me with physical discomfort.
I have my medical card and use CBD and Thc for crohn's disease and nausea. The CBD helps quite a bit but doesn't last as long(as thc). Definitely worth a try. There's a CBD Shop in the Champlain valley dispensary, that you don't need a Medical card for. Right on the waterfront near that fish restaurant I can't remember the name of.
I'm sorry to say the CBD shop has actually moved to a new location, I believe off pine street. I'll have to double check and update this post.
I use it every day – I would say it's very beneficial for me in terms of sleep, anxiety, and what I could only describe as the bleakness of winter. I used to use St. Johns Wort , and CBD on it's own for me is similar in it's effects but much more potent.
So one of the things I've found is different CBD products can have different effectiveness for the same person. Since CBD is based on the cannabis plant, and different people get different effects from different "strains" of cannabis, I've been trying to figure out if the same would be true of the CBD sub-product of those strains. Unfortunately, CBD products don't tend to have their source strain labeled.
Personally, I find all CBD at least mildly relaxing, but only one or two of the dozen or so CBD products I've tried have actually helped me with pain management.
CBD oil – anybody use it?
I’ve started to see more people talk about CBD oil and it’s potential anti-inflammatory effects being useful for runners. The idea being it helps with recovery, pain relief, and sleep.
Does anybody actually use it? The search function showed one thread from a couple months ago, but the comments didn’t really expand on their experiences that much. I’m curious if any long distance runners find it helpful, if it’s just a placebo, and other general experiences.
Specific questions that would help:
What distances are you training for?
How do you use CBD oil? (Amount, routine, type)
What’s your weekly mileage?
Do you have any long term injuries or pain CBD oil is treating? (Or are you just hoping for a general recovery aid?)
How long have you been using CBD oil? Have you tried anything else? Has it replaced anything else?
Do you take CBD during/directly before races, or only during training?
Have you spoken with any professionals around your CBD oil use? (Running coaches, doctors, etc.)
I’m super interested to hear what people who already use this think about it. I like the idea of an anti-inflammatory tool that doesn’t impact digestion, and the pain relief elements could be helpful for ultras, but it’s hard to find actual runners who use the product that aren’t primarily CBD oil sales people.
I'm a triathlete. I train 8 – 10 hours a week, not including auxiliary strength/core/stretching work.
I train currently for sprint and olympic distance races, but I have used CBD lotion during training for an Ironman (140.6).
Not the oil specifically — but i use CBD infused lotion as a stand in for tiger balm or icy hot.
I typically use a finger-tip amount on smaller muscle groups that are sore. It feels nice on my quads, hamstrings, shoulders, and back. Basically as a pain reducer/anti inflammatory.
I've never spoken to any coaches about it, but it did significantly help lower my pain after a low back injury last year.
I typically use CBD as a recovery agent. I wouldn't take it during a race, but if i'm feeling super sore after a hard race or workout, i'll definitely use it then.
I could not recommend this stuff enough. The place I buy from has lotions that smell amazing, feel nice as a texture, and can take my pain from an 8 to a 2-3.
Interesting. I've not seen as much online about the lotion.
An 8 to a 3 is a significant difference. Did you notice that straight away, or after a while of using it?
and theyre likely not verified by the fda so theres no telling whats actually in them.
I use it when my run ends too close to bed time and my HR is still up. Seems to help me both get to sleep and have quality sleep in these situations better than melatonin or other herbal type sleep aids.
I know it's not exactly what you're asking, but as someone who often doesn't finish their workout till 8 or 9 pm, it's been a huge help in getting quality sleep on those days.
Thanks for responding. For the majority of my running I leave the house at 9:30pm-ish, so do sometimes struggle with sleep once I'm back. This is an interesting potential additional benefit.
Do you find you feel groggy the next morning? Or any other impact on how easily you can get up?
What distances are you training for? Ultra distances up to 100M
How do you use CBD oil? (Amount, routine, type) Around 20-25 mg daily split into two doses, one in the morning and one at night.
What’s your weekly mileage? Around 50 but can be up to 70-80.
Do you have any long term injuries or pain CBD oil is treating? (Or are you just hoping for a general recovery aid?) General recovery aid
How long have you been using CBD oil? Have you tried anything else? Has it replaced anything else? For about 3 months. I've not tried anything else and it's not replacing anything else.
Do you take CBD during/directly before races, or only during training? I take the same doses on race day that I do on any other day.
Have you spoken with any professionals around your CBD oil use? (Running coaches, doctors, etc.) No, I did all the research myself and was convinced it was worth trying.
Thanks for the response. When are the majority of your training runs? Is it between the two dosages, before your morning dose, or after your evening one?
Also have you done any races yet while on CBD? I'd be interested in hearing if there was any unexpected results, or whether it's in line with your research.
Also, any particular bits of research that convinced you to give it a go?
I'm moving towards my first ultra, and need to focus a lot more on recovery so a general anti-inflammatory aid does appeal to me.
Inflammation is there for a reason. Trying to suppress it is only going to do harm in the long run. (No pun intended)
acute inflammation good. chronic bad
Interesting podcast assessing the claims vs proven benefits of CBD. https://www.gimletmedia.com/science-vs/cbd-weed-wonder-drug
Forget anecdotal evidence. Let's bring science into the picture.
Curious about this, as well. Thanks for posting these questions.
What distances are you training for? 26.2/31.07
How do you use CBD oil? (Amount, routine, type) i have the oil drops and a 50mg supplement. I take the 50mg supplement right before bed. sometimes i put a couple of drops
10mg in a protein shake or chocolate milk after an intense workout. If im doing a long run i put
6mg in my sports drink. However, i don't use the drops daily, just on intense days.
What’s your weekly mileage?
Do you have any long term injuries or pain CBD oil is treating? (Or are you just hoping for a general recovery aid?) I had some hip and knee niggles for 2 months before taking the cbd. currently, they are pretty much gone. ive noticed since taking the oil that my legs feel "fresher" in the mornings and i can go harder in some of my workouts. i feel like it helps with my recovery rate
How long have you been using CBD oil? Have you tried anything else? Has it replaced anything else? ive been using this for a month. this has replaced my Advil.
Do you take CBD during/directly before races, or only during training? i put it 6mgs in my sports drink on my long runs
