As with humans, the key to helping your dog find comfort is finding the right CBD dosage. This isn’t always an easy task and may take a little time to determine what works best.

You’ll soon have some tricks under your belt to help remove the guess-work and arrive at a comfy solution.

Recent Case Studies Dive into How CBD Affects Your Canine Ally

In 2018, a group of veterinarians did a study on the effectiveness of CBD oil in dogs with osteoarthritis. It found that 80% of dogs given between 2-8 mg per lbs. of body weight had less pain and greater mobility.

A study in 2019 found that dogs given CBD oil with anti-seizure medication had fewer seizures than their placebo counterparts. But these results aren’t conclusive.

It’s important to note that these short-term case studies shine a positive light on using CBD for dogs. However, it is important to note that no long-term studies exist to show its long-term effectiveness or side-effects.

What to Consider When Estimating CBD Dosage for Dogs

The right dosage depends on four criteria: their weight, the type of product, the quality of that product, and the symptoms you want to address.

Before you get started, you need to answer the following questions.

1. How Much Does Your Dog Weigh?

First, determine how much your dog weighs. It’s easiest to determine the right dosage if you measure your dog’s weight in pounds.

If your dog won’t sit on the scale long enough to get a reading, weigh yourself first, then, pick up your dog and subtract your weight from the new weight of you and your dog combined.

2. Are You Going to Use Oil or Treats?

Palm Organix™CBD Oil (aka tinctures) come in a 225 mg (30 servings of 7.5 mg) bottle. It’s tasteless in its natural form and you can mix it with your dog’s food for easy administration. CBD Oil is an excellent choice especially for large dogs as it is an economical way to introduce CBD to your pets daily health and wellness routine. This is especially the case for dogs that weigh more than 25 lbs.

Another popular choice is the Palm Organix™ pet chew. Each pet chew treat contains 2 mg of CBD. These work great for dogs that weigh 25 lbs or less as one chew a day would generally suffice in most cases. Treats are also fine for large dogs but you will need more than one 2mg chew to administer an effective amount of CBD to larger dogs. As stated earlier, it is more cost effective to use the CBD Pet Tincture for dogs above 25 pounds.

3. What’s the Quality of Your CBD Pet Product?

All Palm Organix™ pet products contain natural terpenes, organic hemp, and are made in the USA. They’re also formulated by an in-house veterinarian and designed specifically for pets.

The entire line of Palm Organix™ Pet CBD is free of:

  • THC
  • Soy
  • Dairy
  • Gluten
  • Tree nuts
  • Shellfish
  • And sugar

Furthermore, every batch of the Palm Organix™ Pet CBD line is tested by our supplier and then retested by an independent third party lab. This makes Palm Organix™ CBD a perfect choice for your four-legged pal. When choosing a CBD brand for your pet, most veterinarians strongly suggest you avoid any brands that contain THC. Even in trace amounts, pets do not do well with any type of psychoactive ingredients.

4. What Symptoms Are You Trying to Address?

Intense or chronic symptoms may need a higher dosage to help your dog find comfort. But, it’s best practice to start with the recommended dosage and monitor your dog’s behavior.

How to Estimate the Right CBD Dosage

The Palm Organix™ in-house veterinarian recommends 2mg per 25 lbs. However, you should work with your vet to find the right dosage for your dog. Don’t be surprised if it takes several iterations to find the right dosage.

Here are some examples:

  • If your dog weighs 75 lbs, he or she will need 6 mg CBD per day for improved health and wellness. Here’s the math: 75 lbs divided by 25 lbs multiplied by 2 mg. Therefore you could use three treats or approximately 3/4 of a serving of tincture.
  • If your dog weighs 90 lbs, he or she will need 7.2 mg of CBD per dose. The math: 90 lbs divided by 25 lbs multiplied by 2 mg. You could round up to 7.5 mg which is one serving of Palm Organix CBD tincture.

Here’s the general formula: Your dog’s weight (lbs) / 25 lbs x 2 mg = the right CBD dosage for your dog.

Depending on the symptoms your buddy’s experiencing, he or she may need a higher dosage. Start with the general formula and monitor your dog’s comfort level over the next few days. If you are not getting the desired results, slowly increase the serving as needed to soothe your dog’s symptoms. If you plan on giving your furry friend more than 4 mg/per 25 lbs., it is recommended that you consult with your veterinarian.

Palm Organix™ CBD Oil Tincture vs. CBD Dog Treats

For smaller dog breeds weighing around 25 lbs or less, CBD dog treats are a terrific choice as they are simple to administer and most dogs love the taste. Each treat contains 2 mg of CBD, which is a good starting point for smaller dogs. You could also use the Oil/Tincture however such small doses of oil can be hard to accurately measure. This is why our customers tell us treats work best for smaller canine pals.

For large dogs, a CBD oil pet tincture works well and are more economical. However, this also depends on how your dog takes to CBD oil. You can try giving it directly to the dog in his or her mouth, however, if this method does not work, it is very common for dog owners to simply apply the oil directly to the dogs kibble. If he or she won’t eat it, CBD treats might work as an alternative.

At the end of the day, it ultimately comes down to you and your dog’s preference as both CBD Tinctures and CBD Treats get to the same result. Be sure to estimate the correct dosage based on his or her weight before making a decision. This will help determine which option is most cost-efficient.

PawDaily Dosing Guide

This article reviews the recommended dosing protocol for Pawtanical PawDaily products to help your pup live life the the fullest! Before we get into the specifics of dosing we want to outline some key guidelines that will help you get the most value and effects from PawDaily products.

Start low and go slow

If this is your first time giving PawDaily to your pup we always recommend starting with the Starting Dose (1/4 dropper – to the 0.25 mL line). If the lower dosing achieves desired effects, you can stay at this level – this will ensure the product lasts longer while giving your pet the health benefits it needs. This is usually the case for dogs that are at the lower end of the weight range indicated on the product. If you do not achieve the desired effects at the Starting Dose, increase to Daily Dose (1/2 dropper – to the 0.5mL line) for another week and examine effects. If you don’t achieve desired improvement at the Daily Dose after 1 week, increase to the Medicinal Dose (1 full dropper – 1.0 mL) for another week and examine effects.

Consistency is key

In order to get the full benefits of PawDaily ensure you are consistently administering 2 times per day, everyday. We find it’s best to administer PawDaily with morning and evening meals, this builds on a solid routine that is already established and helps maintain consistency.

Good things take time

While many of our customers have found the positive effects of PawDaily happen quite rapidly, expect about a 2-3 week period to achieve desired effects. If your pets condition is more severe, you may not start to notice benefits until the Daily Dose (1/2 Dropper) or Medicinal Dose (Full Dropper). Although you may think these doses are the most beneficial for your pet from the start, we still recommend starting at the Starting Dose and increasing each week as per the dosing guide on the bottle.

Use your pets weight to choose the right PawDaily product

PawDaily is dosed based on current research recommendations for effectiveness and safety of dosing. We recommend getting the correct dosage for your pet instead of going with a less expensive PawDaily product that is not optimized for your pet’s weight. If at the end of a dosing cycle you are not happy with your purchase, we stand by our products with our 100% Money Back Guarantee.

If your pet is on other medications or if you’re unsure of your pets current health status, consult with your Veterinarian before use.

If your pet is on any other medications please consult with your veterinarian before adding PawDaily into the mix or stopping other medications. All medication changes in pets or humans should be done gradually. PawDaily can interact with other medications by increasing or decreasing their effectiveness so make sure you review the plan with your Veterinarian before moving forward.

If you have questions or are unsure, please ask – We are here to answer your questions about PawDaily and all Pawtanical products, please contact us and we will get back to you within 48 hours.

Now that we’ve covered some basics, let’s dive more into the details about dosing PawDaily for your pet.

How Much CBD Can I Give My Dog?

When it comes to medicating your pets, finding the right amount is crucial.

CBD is a powerful compound that shows a lot of promise in helping dogs, cats, and other pets deal with a vast variety of ailments.

However, finding the right amount can be tricky.

A lot of different factors can influence the exact dose of CBD your pet needs. We will be discussing dogs, but the same is true for cats.

One of the main factors influencing dosage with CBD products is the type of product you use. The brand would also be something to consider.

CBD products for pets are typically available in three forms:

  • Oils
  • Capsules
  • Treats

Another major factor influencing dosage is your pet’s size. Larger dogs require more CBD.

High quality products will actually supply their own dosage charts which are specific to their products. They will have a specific formula for their products based on the weight of your dog.

Lastly, also remember that your dog’s ailment can also affect how much CBD they should be taking.

Pet CBD Dosage Basics

CBD comes in 3 forms and the dosage will depend on the type of CBD product you are giving your pet.

  1. CBD Oil. In general, CBD oils are often administered in drops. We prefer measuring by the mL as drop sizes can vary depending on the dropper and contents. For instance, some products indicate that 20 drops are equal to 1mL while others can be as high as 60. Restart CBD with MCT oil generally has 40 drops per mL.
  2. The amount needed for a dose can also vary from one product to another, but generally consist of 2-20mg of CBD taken 1-2 times daily. Remember: Your pet can not overdose on too much CBD. You can also adjust the dosage given the size of your pet and depending on their condition.
  3. CBD capsules, usually contain between 5-20mg of CBD each. The exact number of capsules needed for a dose vary from one product to another, but generally consist of roughly 1 tablet taken 1-2 times per day.
  4. CBD dog treats can contain varying concentrations of CBD, and should be given to your pet as per the package instructions.

Whenever using any kind of CBD:

  • Follow the dosing instructions that come with the product
  • See how your dog responds
  • Adjust the dose as needed

Remember that you may need to adjust the strength depending on your dog’s ailment and condition. If you are concerned, work with your vet to find the ideal strength for your dog.

Dosing With CBD Oil

RESTART Restore Pet CBD 5 is available in 150mg (30ml), 300mg (60ml), and 600mg (120ml) bottles. Here are the basic dosage guidelines for this product:

For small dogs (under 25lbs):

  • Use up to 1/2mL (up to 2.5mg CBD) once or twice a day.

For medium dogs (25lbs – 75lbs):

  • Use 1/2mL to 1mL (2.5mg – 5mg) once or twice a day.

For large dogs (76lbs and over):

  • Use 1mL to 2mL (5-10mg CBD) once or twice a day.

Remember: Dosages will vary per pet and their needs. Start small and work your way up to the desired amount.

Precise Dosing

For more precise dosing: Serving Size = .25mg x 1lb of body-weight.

If you have a small dog under 20lbs, you need less CBD, or a less potent oil. The 150mg RESTART PET CBD is perfect for a small pet.

For example, if you have a pet who weighs 6 pounds, here is the formula for a standard dose:

  • 6lbs X 0.25mg = 1.5mg CBD
  • Serving Size: Approximated 1/3 mL

Now, if you have a larger pet, you can use the 300mg or 600mg bottles. The potency is the same but the bottle sizes are larger so they will last longer.

In this example the standard dose formula would be:

  • 40lbs X 0.25mg = 10 mg
  • 1 dropper = 1 mL (5mg CBD)
  • Serving Size: 2ml (10mg CBD)

Calculations are based on 150mg CBD per 30mL bottle.

For precise dosages review our Precise CBD Pet Dosing Chart.

How to Give Your Dog CBD Oil

CBD oil should be administered directly into your pet’s mouth, ideally under their tongue. However, as I’m sure you know, dog’s aren’t too keen on taking medicine, so this can be a little tricky for some.

Be patient and remember that your pet may even get used to the routine of taking their CBD oil. Many pet owners have told me that their dogs love licking it up.

If you’re having trouble administering the liquid, try rewarding your dog with his/her favorite treat after taking their meds. CBD can also be added to your pets food.

You may also consider CBD capsules or CBD Treats, which are available in a variety of flavors or add to your pet’s food.

CBD Capsules for Dogs

The formulation for dosing with capsules will be the same as dosing with CBD oil. Capsules may be little easier to administer than CBD oil.

You can either open the capsule and mix its contents with your pet’s regular food or wrap the entire capsule in a treat or pill pocket.

Either way, just make sure your pet receives the entire contents of the capsule to ensure a proper dose.

Dosage With CBD Treats

Generally treates come in strengths of 5mg each. Using the same Precise Pet CBD Dosing Chart, a 20lb dog should get one (5mg) treat per day for a standard dose.

Can My Dog Take Too Much CBD?

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound. This means it won’t make your pet “high.”

Numerous studies have shown that CBD is a very well-tolerated compound, even in high doses. In fact, CBD has no known toxic level and is considered incapable of causing an “overdose.”

Choosing the Right Product (Oil, Capsules, Or Treats)

Many pet owners struggle to decide which product to use for their pet.

We generally recommend using CBD oil whenever possible. However, if your dog is a bit of a picky eater and sensitive to strong tastes, you may find better results using CBD Oils made from isolate to avoid a bitter, hempy taste or use capsules or treats.

When administered under the tongue, CBD oil offers the fastest relief from symptoms.

When adding CBD to your pet’s food, or as capsules and treats, they need to pass through the digestive tract, and can take at least 45 minutes to take effect.

Final Thoughts on Dosage Recommendations

Remember, these are only basic guidelines and may change depending on the size of your pet, their condition, and the type/brand of product you use.

Start small and work your way up and remember that CBD is a non-toxic compound and cannot cause an overdose.
